If the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft you choose comes from a cadaver (called an allograft), there is a small chance that a disease can be transmitted. Because the graft is actively screened against various diseases, including HIV and hepatitis, allografts are generally safe. There is, however, an extremely rare chance that you may contract an illness secondary to the allograft.
