Major complications include, but are not limited to:

· Inability to return the bones in the ankle to their original position or maintain the corrected position

· Severely limited ankle motion

· Serious infection

· Chronic pain

· Wound breakdown

· Nerve damage

· Compartment syndrome, which is increased pressure in the muscle that can lead to permanent nerve or muscle damage in the leg

· Hardware breakage

· Poor or delayed healing of the fracture

· Reaction to medication or anesthesia

· Other rare and unlikely events.
