Time in the Hospital (Ankle Fracture)
When you are ready to leave the recovery room, you will be taken to your regular hospital room. Although some ankles fractures are treated with surgery on an outpatient basis, most patients spend at least one night in the hospital. During this time, you may receive additional antibiotics and often your splint may be changed to a cast.
You will also have to stay in the hospital until your pain is well controlled.
Because the amount of time spent in the hospital following surgery can vary, your healthcare providers will inform you and your family of your progress as you recover. When your healthcare providers feel you are recovering successfully, you will be able to go home.
