When and How to Take Didronel
General considerations for when and how to take Didronel include the following:
- The medication comes in tablet form. It is taken by mouth every day for a specified period, usually three to six months, depending on several factors.
- Take Didronel on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Do not eat for two hours before or after taking a dose. Many foods interact with this medicine, decreasing its absorption into the body and making it less effective.
- Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of plain water, not any other beverage.
- Try to stay upright for 30 minutes after taking Didronel, as this can help prevent irritation to your esophagus.
- Do not take vitamins, minerals, or antacids that contain calcium, iron, magnesium, or aluminum for two hours after taking this medication (see Didronel Drug Interactions).
- It is best to take a dose at the same time each day to maintain an even level in your blood.
- For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
The dose of Didronel your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- The condition being treated
- Your weight
- Other medications you may be taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
