Jakafi Drug Interactions

Jakafi Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when Jakafi is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Certain Immunosuppressants
Taking Jakafi with medications that decrease the activity of the immune system may increase your risk for side effects, such as infections and anemia. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Jakafi with an immunosuppressant.

Clozapine
Combining Jakafi with clozapine may increase your risk for a dangerously low white blood cell count. You should not take these medicines together without your healthcare provider's approval.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Jakafi using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining Jakafi with one of these CYP 3A4 inducers may decrease the level of Jakafi in your bloodstream, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider will monitor you closely if you take Jakafi with a CYP 3A4 inducer, and increase your Jakafi dose if needed.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Jakafi using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining Jakafi with one of these CYP 3A4 inhibitors may increase the level of Jakafi in your bloodstream, potentially increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may choose to give you a lower Jakafi dose if you take it with a CYP 3A4 inhibitor.

Echinacea
Taking echinacea with Jakafi can make Jakafi less effective. Do not take echinacea during Jakafi treatment, unless your healthcare provider tells you otherwise.
